Our Story

Super Canine Assistance Dogs is a family-run business dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities raise and train calm, capable, and reliable assistance dogs.

We believe that the most successful assistance dogs are built on strong foundations, thoughtful training, clear guidance, and a deep understanding of both the dog and the handler. That’s why we take a personalised approach, taking the time to understand each client’s unique goals, needs, and daily challenges.

With extensive experience in assistance dog training, we understand the profound impact these dogs can have on independence, confidence, and quality of life. Our comprehensive training programs are designed to support clients step by step as they raise and train their own assistance dog, ensuring skills that are practical, reliable, and suited to real-world living.

At Super Canine, we are passionate about creating life-changing connections between people and their canine companions.

About Leanne

Super Canine Assistance Dogs was founded by Leanne Hoogwerf, Certified GHAD Trainer and Specialised Trainer, whose lifelong passion for dogs and people is at the heart of everything we do.

From a young age, Leanne knew she wanted to work with dogs. That passion led her to formal qualifications in canine training and behaviour (Certificate III), alongside a career spanning decades in the veterinary and healthcare industries. As a qualified veterinary nurse and registered nurse, Leanne brings a unique and holistic understanding of health, welfare, physical disability, and psychiatric conditions, both human and canine.

Leanne has extensive experience working with a wide range of breeds and temperaments, with particular expertise in training assistance dogs for individuals with physical and psychiatric disabilities. She understands the complex challenges faced by those who rely on assistance dogs and is deeply committed to helping clients achieve greater independence, confidence, and quality of life.

Known for her compassionate, practical, and tailored approach, Leanne focuses on building strong relationships with both clients and their dogs. Every training journey is adapted to suit the individual dog’s temperament and the handler’s specific needs, whether that involves foundational obedience, behaviour support, or specialised assistance tasks.

Leanne’s ultimate goal is simple: to help people and dogs work together in harmony, creating reliable partnerships that truly support everyday life.

“I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities by supporting them to raise and train highly skilled and reliable canine companions.”
